Lip Filler: What to Expect at Your Appointment

Glow Medical Group · Delaware, OH ·

Nervous about lip filler? Here's exactly what happens at a lip filler appointment at Glow — from consultation to numbing to aftercare.

Considering lip filler but not sure what actually happens in the treatment room? Here's the full walkthrough, so you can walk in confident instead of nervous.

It starts with a conversation, not a syringe

Every lip filler visit at Glow begins with a consultation. We talk about what bothers you, what you like about your lips now, and what "done" looks like to you — natural and subtle, or fuller and more defined. We'll look at your facial proportions together, because lips that suit your face always look better than lips copied from a photo.

This is also where we review your medical history and make sure you're a good candidate. Honesty here goes both ways: if we don't think filler is the right move for you, we'll say so.

Numbing comes first

Comfort matters. We apply a topical numbing cream and give it time to work before we begin. Most patients are surprised by how manageable the appointment feels — the anticipation is almost always worse than the treatment.

The treatment itself

Your provider will use a fine needle or cannula to place small amounts of filler precisely where they're needed — defining the border, adding volume, balancing symmetry. We work in small increments and check with you along the way. A typical lip appointment takes about 30 to 45 minutes, and much of that is consultation and numbing.

One thing patients appreciate: hyaluronic acid fillers — the type we use for lips — are adjustable. Your provider can shape and refine during the visit, and the product integrates naturally with your tissue.

What you'll look like right after

Expect some swelling — lips almost always look bigger on day one than they will once settled. Mild tenderness, and occasionally small bruises, are normal. Most swelling eases over 3 to 5 days, with the final result settling in around 2 weeks.

Plan ahead if you have an event: give yourself at least 2 weeks between your appointment and any big occasion.

Aftercare basics

  • Skip intense exercise, saunas, and alcohol for 24 hours. - Avoid pressing or massaging your lips unless your provider instructs you to. - Ice gently if you're swollen — 10 minutes on, 10 off. - Come back for your 2-week check so we can see your settled result.

How long do results last?

Lip filler typically lasts 6 to 12 months, depending on the product used, your metabolism, and how much was placed. Many patients come in once or twice a year to maintain.

The bottom line

A lip filler appointment is a conversation first and a treatment second. When it's done conservatively by an experienced injector, the result should look like your lips — just a better-rested, more defined version. If you're curious, the consultation is the no-pressure place to start.
